City of Toccoa Looking for Buyers for Currahee Property

The City of Toccoa is putting a city-owned property up for sale and requesting bids from prospective businesses.

At their meeting Monday evening, the Toccoa City Commission voted to put the property at 380 West Currahee out for bid.

City Manager Billy Morse says the move is part of the City’s overall beautification plan for the Currahee St. Area.

“We bought two properties on Currahee St. One was an old liquor store, which we’ve torn down. And the other was the old Straight Shooters bar,” Morse explained. “That building is in good shape. So, now we feel like it’s time since we don’t have a use for it, to put it out on the market and see if there are some folks out there who have some good economic development projects that would be a good fit for what we’re trying to do on Currahee St.”

Morse said the City has set goals for Currahee St, which include promoting economic development and generate activity for the Toccoa downtown area.

The City is also trying to encourage new and existing business owners to take advantage of incentives, such as DDA Facade grants, Currahee Beautification Property Improvement grants, and Georgia Main St. Design services.

To that end, Morse says the City is looking for specific kinds of businesses to locate at the 380 W. Currahee property.

“The specific types of businesses that we are looking to try and recruit would be a grocery/market, a general store, an outdoor outfitters store, a brewery, a film production company or a bakery. So those are the six specific kinds of businesses that we’re looking at,” Morse said.

Morse said however, all interested business owners and developers should submit bids and all submitted bids will be considered.

Bids must be submitted by December 11.

A copy of the Request for Proposal is available at the City Manager’s office in Toccoa City Hall.
