City of Toccoa Ends Fiscal 2018 in the Black, Completes a Number of Projects

The City of Toccoa wrapped up fiscal 2018 in the black with a number of important projects completed.

That’s according to Toccoa Finance Director Becky BoHannon.

BoHannon gave her annual Fiscal and Project Update for 2018 Monday night to the City Commission.

BoHannon said the fiscal year ended with a cash balance on-hand of just over $7.7 million dollars, that includes just over $3.5 million in the reserve fund and over $404-thousand dollars in the operating accounts.

SPLOST still has more than $3.7 million left.

BoHannon then gave the Commission an overview of what was paid out in fiscal 2018.

“Regarding debt for the year, we were able to pay $810,000 for the water bond debt,” she told the Commission. “Natural Gas bonds, we paid $1.54 million. The GMA lease pool we paid principle on that of $192,169 and the Lakes facilities we paid off the golf carts that we leased up there. That was $70,940. The total debt that we retired this year was $2,613,109.”

As for completed projects, BoHannon said the City completed the finance software conversion using SPLOST funds.

And she says some police and fire safety projects were also completed.

“We joined the regional drug task force; the police department did that. We added two police vehicles to the fleet in the Police Department using the lease pool funds. We added two in-car camera systems for police using grant funds. We purchased a truck for the fire department using lease pool funds to replace one of their aging vehicles. We added two thermal cameras for the fire department using reserve funds for that,” she explained.

Other purchases and projects included completing the railway viewing platform,  renovating parts of the Pines Restaurant and Meeting Center, completing the next phase of the Streetscape downtown, both using grant funds, and making several large equipment purchases for the City using SPLOST funds, she said.
