City of Toccoa elect new Mayor and Vice Mayor

During the recent Toccoa City Commission meeting, the commissioners voted and elected a new Mayor and new Vice Mayor.

Prior to the election, current Toccoa Mayor Jeanette Jamison spoke on behalf of the city employees and elected officials for everything they have accomplished this past year.

After Jamieson’s speech, she was presented with a plaque of appreciation from Stephens County Development Authority Executive Director Tim Martin, who explained that because this forthcoming year Jamison will not serve on the Development Authority Board in the Mayor spot, saying he will miss her valuable knowledge and input.

Current Vice Mayor David Austin also presented Jamison with a plaque of appreciation from the City Commissioners.

Commissioner Evan Hellenga made a recommendation that Austin fill the seat as Mayor, Commissioner Terry Carter seconded the recommendation, the motion passed unanimously.

Austin spoke with WNEG News about his enthusiasm to serve the citizens of Toccoa in this capacity.

 

“I look forward to all that we can accomplish in 2018, this past year has been very good for Toccoa,” Austin said.

Carter made a recommendation that Commissioner Gail Fry fill the seat as Vice Mayor, Hellenga seconded the recommendation, the motion passed unanimously.

Fry told WNEG News that she is proud to continue serving the community.

Both Austin and Fry will take their new seats at the first scheduled meeting of 2018.
