City Commission to Consider Rural Zone Designation

The Toccoa City Commission will meet tonight to consider a Rural Zone Designation Resolution.

The Community Development Department is interested in applying for the Georgia Department of Community Affairs’ new Rural Zone designation.

This program provides additional tax credits for rural communities.

The rural zone is targeted toward the Main Street district.

The goal of the Rural Zone program is to provide tax credit incentives to promote the revitalization of vacant, rural Georgia downtowns by encouraging investment, job creation, and economic growth in long-established business districts by the designation of “Rural Zones.”

The Department of Community Affairs and Department of Economic Development will designate up to 10 zones per year, with benefits being earned for a period of five years.

In other business, the commission will consider the acquisition of a Henrietta Street property.

City staff recently negotiated a price of $6,000 for a 2.08 acre lot, owned by Kenneth C. Payne, located at 50 Henrietta Street.

The Commission will meet at 4:30 for their work session and will hold their regular meeting right after at 5 p.m. in the City Commission Court Room.
