Christmas Party at Peer Center leaves everyone with smiles
People First of Stephens County in conjunction with Allens United Methodist Church worked in tandem to pull off yet another successful Christmas party at the Peer Center in Toccoa, last Friday.
Women’s group member, Lisa Bryant with Allens United Methodist Church told WNEG News about how the church’s involvement with People First contributed to the success of the annual event.
“We’re here from Allens United Methodist Church’s Women’s Group. It’s always a great time to come out and help the community,” Bryant said.
Peoples First’s Secretary, Dorothy Wiley, explained to WNEG News how she always looks forward to the fellowship, food, and seeing smiles on every ones’ faces.
Wiley added that People First are always seeking out new members throughout the community.
“We are always looking for new members, if you would like to become a member contact Mrs. Geraldine Hayes, we’d love to have you,” Wiley said.
People First Event Organizer Geraldine Hayes told WNEG News that for several years People First along with Allens UMC has partnered together to provide a Christmas dinner for the participates at the Peer Center, in Toccoa.
“We’ve been doing this for several years, this may be the 10th annual one. Each year it just gets better and better,” Hayes said.
Lisa Shurtleff, program director for the peer center in Toccoa, spoke about the services American Work provide the community, along with the Christmas dinner sponsored by People First.
“Here at the Stephens County Peer Center which is an extension of American Work, we offer services to individuals who suffer with mental illness. This Christmas party is always a great time for everyone here. People First makes sure no one is left out or forgotten,” Shurtleff said.
