Christmas Fest starts tonight

Main Street Toccoa’s Christmas Fest is slated to begin tonight, to kick-off the Christmas season.

Both tonight and tomorrow will provide the public with several opportunities to take-in the festivities of the holiday season.

The 8th annual event includes carolers, open shops and restaurants, Santa, a live nativity, the lighting of the city’s Christmas tree on the courthouse lawn on Sage Street, and much more.

Tonight from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. the Festival of Trees will be held in the Historic Courthouse, and tomorrow from 1 until 4 p.m. you can vote for your favorite tree, or just look at the trees setup in the courtroom.

The Christmas Sage Market will start at 5 and run until 9 p.m. at the Star Theatre.

Main Street Toccoa Events Coordinator Sharon Crosby said this year’s Christmas Fest will have a number of the same activities as in years past.

The annual Toccoa Christmas Parade through downtown Toccoa, will take be held tomorrow afternoon at 4:00 p.m.

This year’s theme is “All about Christmas.”

It will follow its traditional route starting on Doyle Street and heading through downtown, turning onto Sage Street, then Foreacre Street and Alexander Street, before turning onto Savannah Street and ending at Toccoa Elementary School.

Crosby added that this holiday season will also feature an ice skating rink open throughout the month of December.

“Toccoa On Ice,” the ice skating rink will be open in the parking lot along East Tugalo Street in downtown Toccoa on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, weather permitting, through December 31.

Hours are from 5 to 9 p.m. on Fridays, 12 to 9 p.m. on Saturdays, and 1 to 6 p.m. on Sundays.
