Chamber welcomes D & K to community

The Toccoa-Stephens County Chamber of Commerce celebrated a ribbon cutting for D & K Drug and Alcohol Services, Thursday.

The new business joins the community to help combat the stigma associated with addiction treatment.

D & K, located at 211 Mitchell Street, seeks to provide dignified and respectful services to addicted persons throughout Stephens County.

National Certified Drug, Alcohol and Addictions Counselor Kimberly Cole, heads D & K as owner and treatment coordinator.

With hopes to reduce recidivism rates, Cole will offer classes that instill confidence and self-respect for participants.

“I hope to lower the recidivism rate of reincarcerations (sic) through the addicted population by working and instilling confidence and respect for self and work with community agencies such as probation, drug court, and health court,” Cole said. “What we’ve been doing hasn’t been working and we’ve got to do something different. What we tell our clients ‘if what you’ve been doing isn’t working then try something else,’ well I think we need to step up to that and start doing it ourselves.”

Cole hopes to become a beacon of hope for those struggling with addiction, while also serving other community members through programs such as anger management, individual sessions, MRT, SAAS and more.

“Presently the hours are not set, I do groups on Monday nights, Wednesday nights, Thursday nights, and Friday mornings,” Cole added. “I can do an assessment and an evaluation, all they have to do is call the number and I can meet them.”
