Chamber President comments on Tugalo Greenspace project

The Tugaloo Greenspace project continues to be a topic of discussion and debate among community members as well as city staff and local organizations.

WNEG News recently spoke with Toccoa/Stephens County Chamber of Commerce President Julie Paysen regarding the project.

She said she has been in support of the project since it started.

She said the budget issues the project is facing now are a result of the economy and are unavoidable.

She said she has seen some of the comments on social media expressing concern about the project, but said it is important to realize what a benefit this Greenspace will be for the downtown area.

She addressed, briefly, the issue of parking spots that would be lost with the construction of the greenspace.

She added that a balance is needed between the convenience of being able to park within a few feet of your destination downtown, and increasing the number of people who are drawn to the downtown area.

She said that running into crowded parking in downtown is a positive indicator of a growing downtown.

WNEG News will provide coverage of tonight’s called meeting of the Toccoa City Commission, scheduled by city officials for the sole purpose of discussing the Greenspace project. The meeting will be held at 5 p.m. at Toccoa City Hall. The public is invited to attend.
