Chamber, Library, Citizens Welcome New Bookmobile

Last Thursday, The Toccoa-Stephens County Chamber of Commerce and area citizens joined local and regional library officials for the Stephens County introduction of the new Northeast Georgia Regional Libraries Bookmobile.

According to Delana Knight · Director at Northeast Georgia Regional Library System, the  goal of the bookmobile program  is to foster community awareness of library resources in Northeast Georgia by bringing the library to under-served patrons through regular Bookmobile visits, and active participation in community events.

Chamber President Julie Paysen said the event had one of the highest turnouts for the organization’s ribbon-tying events, and Bookmobile and Outreach Manager Jenny Brooks spoke to the crowded room of residents who gathered for the event, despite continuing heavy rain. Brooks, who was recently selected for the position and has moved to Toccoa, explained the planning that went into the bookmobile program, and detailed the logistics of how the program would bring library resources to citizens in Stephens, Habersham, Rabun, and White Counties]

She said the goal was to connect people to the library in places and situations where there may not have been a connection before.

Mayor Gail Fry remembered her childhood experience with the local bookmobile, and welcomed the program back to the county.
