Carlisle named District Chairman at Chiefs’ Convention

Lavonia Police Chief Bruce Carlisle has been a member of the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police since becoming the city’s highest-ranking law enforcement officer. As part of that organization, Carlisle has also served as the District 9 representative to the organization. Carlisle has now taken his service to that group one step higher after being selected as the chairman for district representatives.

Carlisle first talks about the makeup of the organization.

“The Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police is divided into 11 districts in the state. Each one of the districts has two representatives. One is elected and the other is appointed by the president of the association. Lavonia happens to be in District 9. I am the elected representative for this area. What we do in the districts is we provide monthly meetings and training where we can network and nurture those relationships with other agency heads from around our district,” Carlisle said.

He continued to discuss some of the district’s responsibilities.

“It’s virtually impossible to get the chiefs of police together more than twice a year, so it has to be divided into districts in order to meet the needs of the member. Again, we provide training for the district, we work with legislators on legislative issues that are important to law enforcement. We meet the needs of other chiefs of police with various resources. There’s just a number of things that we do,” Carlisle said.

Finally, Carlisle talks about the honor of being selected as chairman.

“Now, with that said, there is a chairman of the district representatives that serves as a full voting member of the chief’s association that is the voice of all the district representatives throughout the state. I am extremely excited to announce that at this summer conference I was elected as the chairman of the district representatives and I consider that a huge honor to serve on the executive board of the Association of Chiefs of Police, one of the most professional organizations I have been involved in during my 40 year career and I look forward to serving with the other representatives in the coming year,” Carlisle said.

Carlisle said he was fortunate to have his wife, Carrol, join him for the appointment.
