Camp Toccoa will celebrate D-Day Friday, Saturday

June 6 marks the 74th Anniversary Celebration of D-Day, and to commemorate the occasion, Camp Toccoa will be holding its seventh annual weekend event to recognize the “Toccoa Men,” the service of all veterans and active military who embrace the legacy of leadership exemplified by these heroes.

On Friday, June 1, the weekend will start with a banquet held in the Pavilion at 6:00 p.m.

Everyone is invited to enjoy the cash bar, reception and silent auction.

The speaker of the evening is Chris Langlois, the grandson of Medic Eugene Roe, Sr. who joined Easy Company at Camp Mackall.

Langlois graduated from LSU and is a police officer in Dallas, Texas.

He has joined forces with artist and illustrator Anneke Helleman of the Netherlands to produce a children’s book entitled How Easy Company Became a Band of Brothers.

Saturday morning there will be a 10K Run/Walk that begins with registration at 7 a.m. and with race time at 8 a.m.

Following the 10K, will be a memorial service and dedication of the first barracks completed at the camp at 10 a.m.

In addition, there will be a book signing, vendors, displays, living historians and food available at the camp located on Dick’s Hill Parkway/Ayersville Road.

Tickets for Friday night’s event are $50 per person, or $450 for a reserved table for eight and can be purchased at the Currahee Military Museum Gift Shop or online at camptoccoaatcurrahee.org.

The cost to participate in the 10K Run/Walk is $30 for preregistration and $35 the day of the event.

All who pre-register will receive a t-shirt and race day registrants will receive shirts as long as they are available.
