Busy Thursday ahead in Toccoa/Stephens County

Taking a quick look at upcoming events of note around the community, WNEG reminds our listeners that tomorrow, Jan. 25, the Northeast Georgia Library System, the Toccoa/Stephens County Library and the Toccoa/Stephens County Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a ceremony to mark the opening of the new Bookmobile.

Starting at 10 a.m. at the local public library, located at 52 W. Savannah Street, local citizens will have a chance to tour and learn about the new regional bookmobile, which will have a regular route through Stephens, Habersham, Rabun, and White Counties.

As WNEG News previously reported, the Bookmobile program’s goal is to foster community awareness of library resources in Northeast Georgia by bringing the library to under-served patrons through regular Bookmobile visits, and active participation in community events.

Former Toccoa/Stephens County Public Library Manager Leslie Allen told WNEG last August that a bookmobile, with a regular schedule, will serve many area residents who currently are not able to access the services of the public library.

Also tomorrow, the Toccoa Main Street Program will hold its annual Main Street Awards Program at the Historic Ritz Theatre. Ten businesses and individuals will be recognized for their investment in downtown Toccoa during 2023. The reception will begin at 5:00 pm and the program will begin at 5:30 pm. The Downtown Development Authority will review 2023 downtown revitalization efforts during the program. Main Street Toccoa will present awards to downtown business owners, property owners, and volunteers who have exemplified outstanding service and investment in the downtown area.

The public is invited to attend.  For more information, contact the Main Street office at (706) 282-3309.
