Businesses Sought to Participate in 2018 Festival of Trees

Toccoa Main Street is putting out the call for local businesses to participate in this year’s Festival of Trees.

This year’s Festival of Trees takes place from November 29 through December 1.

The event offers opportunities to help raise money for local non-profits and charities in the community, according to Main Street Events Coordinator Sharon Crosby.

“This is our 11th year for the Festival of Trees and we do it during our Christmas Fest,” Crosby explained. “Different organizations will come and decorate a tree for a non-profit. Then, as people come in to look at the trees they vote for their favorite. And they can buy a ticket for a $1 and put that ticket in a bucket in front of the tree. So, each non-profit will get the money from the sold tickets in their bucket. Whichever non-profit tree that gets the most tickets will get a $500 donation to their charity or non-profit.”

The trees will be on display from 8a to 5p Thursday November 29th in the courtroom of the historic courthouse.

Then on Friday and Saturday, November 30th and December 1st, the public can view the trees and also vote on their favorite.

On Friday, the trees will be on display from 5p to 9p and on Saturday from noon to 4p.

“It’s a beautiful event. We’ve got music downstairs. The Currahee Dulicmer Players will be down there and David Fry will be upstairs. It’s a wonderful part of our entire event that night,” she said.

Businesses who would like to have a tree for the Festival of Trees can get an application online at www.mainstreettoccoa.com.
