Kooper Briley signed on Wednesday to play baseball close to home at Kennesaw State University.

Briley said that he is looking forward to continuing his career nearby at a strong program.

“I had several offers and I went on a couple visits and tours, but something just felt different about Kennesaw State,” said Briley. “I really loved it. I had a goal to play Division I baseball and be as close to home as possible and Kennesaw being basically in our backyard, it accomplished both. I love the coaches and it just has a great feel to it.”

Kennesaw State is a Division I baseball program.

Briley said he is excited to test himself at the top level of collegiate baseball.

“It feels great to be a part of something like that,” said Briley. “It is very humbling. I feel very blessed to be a part of that. Hopefully I can help contribute to their success and just continue the tradition.”

On the field, Briley said Kennesaw State is looking at him as a shortstop. Off the field, he says he wants to study physical education in order to teach high school and coach.

Stephens County High School Baseball Coach Greg McCall said Briley is a tremendous player and leader that is set up to succeed at the next level.

“He is definitely going to be the nucleus of our program this year,” said McCall. “Best way I can describe Kooper is character, competitive, coachability. All three of those words play into that. Tremendous young man. Tremendous baseball player.”

Before Briley heads off to Kennesaw State though, he still has one more year left, his senior year, with the Stephens County High School baseball team.

Briley said he is looking forward to the season and adds he feels they have the opportunity to be competitive in the region and make a run in the playoffs.
