Breaking News: West Currahee Street now open to all Traffic

The portion of West Currahee Street, formerly Dicks Hill Parkway, is now open to traffic.

Stephens County Administrator Phyllis Ayers made the announcement Thursday evening.  She says temporary barriers have been put in-place to allow the road to be reopened, while the county waits to receive the materials needed for permanent guardrails.

Ayers says the county and Hayward Baker Incorporated have been working diligently to ensure the road was reopened.

The portion of road, near 4989 W. Currahee Street, was closed back in December of 2017, after the Stephens County Board of Commissioners were alerted that the road was unsafe for motorist to use.

In April 2018, the commission awarded a bid to Hayward Baker Inc. for the design build to repair the slope in the amount of $2.1 million, dependent on funding from the State of Georgia.

In June, Stephens County was awarded $800,000 from the Department of Transportation to fund a portion of the project.

Then, in September, the commission let the contract with Hayward Baker Inc. and since then, Hayward Baker Inc. has been working towards its completion.

Again, West Currahee Street is now open to all traffic.
