The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office released this photo of Wilbanks shortly after naming him a suspect in Sunday’s murder.

The man law enforcement believe to be responsible for the shooting that fatally injured an Eastanollee man is in custody.

WNEG News has confirmed with local law enforcement that 27-year-old Asa Terrel Wilbanks is now in custody after evading law enforcement for several days.

The details of the arrest has yet to be released.

According to Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley Wilbanks was wanted in connection to Sunday’s fatal shooting that occurred at an Eastanollee residence.

Shirley says deputies initially responded to the scene Sunday evening, where they located the victim, with a fatal gunshot wound.

According to Shirley, prior to the shooting, an argument had ensued outside of the residence, over the victim’s vehicle that had been reported stolen several weeks prior.

Shirley says at some point during the physical altercation, a shot was fired, striking the victim who died at the scene.

A warrant for felony murder was issued for Wilbanks, Sunday evening.

Shirley says the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Lavonia Police Department, Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, and the Stephens County Coroner’s Office all assisted Stephens County Sheriff’s Office with the investigation.
