BREAKING NEWS: Stephens County will finish election tabulation this afternoon after machine difficulties

Stephens County’s Registrar and Board of Electors will continue tabulating absentee ballots today at 1 p.m.

At 1 a.m. this morning, the Registrar’s Office decided to continue scanning absentee ballots; however, if the machine kicked one out, then the Registrar’s Office would create a pile and finish tabulating the rejected ones later today.

At 1:30 a.m. this morning, the scanner over-heated and the Registrar decided to stop tabulation until later today at 1 p.m.

According to Republican Representative Lori McAvoy of the Stephens County Board of Electors the machine needed to cool down and be cleaned before the tabulations could continue.

These are the unofficial Election Results for Stephens County, including advance in-person and election day voting; however, these numbers represent how Stephens County residents voted and not how the State or district voted.

For the Presidential Election, 7,999 Stephens County residents voted for Donald J. Trump; whereas, 1,579 voted for Joseph R. Biden and 108 voted for Jo Jorgensen.

For the United States Senate: 7,970 residents voted for David A. Perdue, 1,500 voted for Jon Ossoff, and 172 voted for Shane Hazel.

For the United States Senate, to fill the unexpired term of Johnny Isakson, Republican candidate Doug Collins took the lead in Stephens County with 5,652 votes, incumbent Republican candidate Kelly Loeffler received 1,778 votes, and Democratic candidate Raphael Warnock received 733 votes.

For Public Service Commissioner, incumbent Jason Shaw received 7,748 votes, Robert G. Bryant received 1,375 votes, and Elizabeth Melton received 287 votes.

For Public Service Commissioner, incumbent Lauren Bubba McDonald, Jr. received 7,653 votes, Daniel Blackman received 1,378 votes, and Nathan Wilson received 273 votes.

For U.S. Representative in 117th Congress from the 9th Congressional District of Georgia, Republican candidate Andrew Clyde received 7,934 votes and Democratic candidate Devin Pandy received 1,465 votes.

For State Senator From 50th District, Republican candidate Bo Hatchett received 7,939 votes and Democratic candidate Dee Dailey received 1,439 votes.

On the ballot for Stephens County residents, there were two Proposed Constitutional Amendments.

The first amendment authorizes dedication of fees and taxes to their intended purpose by general state law.

6,887 residents voted in favor of the amendment with 2,107 residents voting in opposition to the amendment.

The second amendment waives state and local sovereign immunity for violation of state laws, state and federal constitutions.

6,213 residents voted in favor of the amendment with 2,707 residents voting in opposition to the amendment.

There was one statewide referendum, which establishes a tax exemption for certain real property owned by charities.

6,593 residents voted in favor of the referendum with 2,521 residents voting in opposition to the referendum.

Again, the Stephens County Registrar’s Office and Board of Electors will resume tabulating the election results this afternoon at 1 p.m.
