BREAKING NEWS: Shooting Near Whitman St. Park

Agents with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation are joining Toccoa Police is investigating a double shooting that resulted in one death.

“On August 29, 2021, just after 6:30 pm, Stephens County 911 began receiving multiple calls of a shooting on Whitman Street in Toccoa, Georgia,” said Toccoa Police Chief Jimmy Mize Sunday night. “Toccoa Police officers responded to the area and found two males suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Police officers were able to perform CPR on one victim who was later pronounced deceased at Stephens County Hospital.”

Mize said the second victim was transported by EMS to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, Georgia. His condition is unknown.

As of 10p, detectives with the Toccoa Police Department, along with GBI agents, were still on the scene and are interviewing possible witnesses along with processing evidence.

No word yet on what lead up to the shootings. The names of the victims have not yet been released and there is no word yet of any arrest.

The case is still under investigation and ongoing. Mize said other details will be released when possible.
