UPDATE: BREAKING NEWS: State calls off manhunt after K-9 loses track

Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley tells WNEG News that the man hunt has been called off by the state.

He says the K-9’s lost the track of the suspect.

As WNEG News reported earlier, the Stephens County Sheriff’s office along with the Georgia State Patrol set up a perimeter to catch a suspect that had fled on foot near Davis Mountain Road.

According to Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley, the Motor Carrier Division was chasing a truck towing a skid steer into the county from Habersham County on the by-pass.

The driver of the truck then lost control and went off the shoulder into woods.

He then jumped out and ran from authorities.

K-9s from the Sheriff’s Office and Lee Arrendale State Prison, along with air support from GSP were canvassing the wooded area.

WNEG News will continue to follow this story and bring you additional details as they become available.
