BREAKING: 128 employees to be displaced, as Eaton Corporation announces closure

A local industry will be closing its doors during the first quarter of 2021.

According to Stephen County Development Authority Executive Director Tim Martin, Eaton Corporation, located in Toccoa, have announced that they are in the process of closing its doors.

Martin says the closure will displace 128 employees; however, he says those employees have several options available to them, including other industries in Toccoa that are actively hiring and going back to school through North Georgia Technical College.

According to Eaton Plant Manager Richard Haislip, they have put together a robust severance package for its employees, which includes out-placement and counseling assistance.

The targeted closing date, according to Haislip is during the first quarter of 2021.

Haislip says it is important that they hold on to their local workforce until after the first of the year as the company has contracts to fulfill.

Once the plant is closed, plans are to market the land and building.

Additionally, the Georgia Department of Labor are in the process of mobilizing its resources to assist those displaced workers.
