Boil Water Advisory Lifted in Commerce

The water is running again in Commerce and businesses and restaurants are open again in the Banks Crossing area.

A boil water notice was lifted Sunday afternoon.

On Sunday a local state of emergency was lifted in Banks Crossing where flood waters swamped businesses and restaurants along U.S. 441/Ga. 15 between Waffle House and the QT during Friday’s heavy storm.

At least 30 people who were trapped by the rising waters had to be rescued from the Shoppes at Banks Crossing by EMS and Banks County Fire personnel.

More also had to be rescued from the Zaxby’s and Outback restaurants.

By Friday evening US 441 was re-opened but many businesses, including the Tanger Outlet Mall remained closed.

On Saturday, Banks County Sheriff Carlton Speed tweeted his thanks to Banks County Fire/EMS, EMA, 911, Board of Education and the County Commissioners for being on scene and stepping up without hesitation.
