Body of man found dead inside Toccoa woman’s apartment has been identified

Law enforcement has identified the body of a man found dead inside a Toccoa woman’s apartment.

Following an autopsy by the GBI Crime lab, the man was positively identified as 39-year-old Michael Todd Thompson, of Toccoa.

According to Toccoa Police Chief Jimmy Mize the incident happened just after midnight on Wednesday, July 31.

He says officers were dispatched to the Norman Street residence, in reference to a possible deceased body inside the home.

While officers were speaking with the homeowner, she advised officers that she had just returned home from a week stay at the hospital, and when she attempted to enter her residence the front door was blocked.

She then went around back and found the back door was open, she then looked through the doorway and could see an unknown male lying on the floor against the front door.

Mize tells WNEG News that his officers contacted the Criminal Investigation Division Unit, the County Coroner and the Georgia Bureau  of Investigation.

GBI Crime Scene Specialists processed the crime scene.

Thompson was taken by the County Corner to the GBI Crime Lab for autopsy.

Mize said that several interviews have been conducted and the case remains under investigation.

He said the cause of death is still being investigated.
