Board of Education approves $700-thousand purchase for Chromebooks

The Stephens County Board of Education approved a $700-thousand technology purchase on Tuesday during its regular scheduled meeting.

The purchase totaling $704,472.60 was for 2,300 Dell Chromebooks.

According to Technology Director Brett Irvin the total price includes white glove service which will have Dell set up all of the Chromebooks so that when the school system gets the computers, they’ll be ready for use.

Irvin says this will put Chromebooks in the hands of every student in grades 3 through 12.

Irvin says the total unit price for each Chromebook is $298.89 which includes software licensing, the white glove set up, extended three-year warranty, and taxes.

A motion was made by Board Member Len Stovall with Board Member Travis Dobbs seconding the motion.

The motion was approved unanimously.
