Betty Payne Lecroy

Betty Payne LeCroy, 93, of Carnesville, passed away Sunday June 25, 2023, at the
Alexian Village, in Signal Mountain, Tennessee.

Born November 17, 1929, in Carnesville, she was the daughter of the late Julius William
Payne and Mary Floy Parham Payne. She was the widow of the late Bill H. LeCroy, and
mother of the late Michael Alan “Mike” LeCroy. She was the sister of the late Blanton
William Payne, Wylette Payne Moody, and Brenda Ann Payne Nicholson. She was a
1946 graduate of Franklin County High School and graduated from Piedmont College in
1949. An educator for 40 years, she taught at Red Hill School and was the girls basketball
coach, Lavonia Elementary, Carnesville Elementary, Carnesville High School, and
Franklin County Middle School. A lifelong member of the Cross Roads Baptist Church,
the Willing Workers Sunday School Class, and served as a Sunday School teacher for
many years. She was a member of the Georgia Retired Techer’s Association, Alpha Delta
Kappa Sorority, and a former member of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Edward Schemel, of Signal
Mountain, TN; granddaughters, Lee Schemel Barton and husband Mitchell, of
Chattanooga, TN, and Dr. Alayna LeCroy, of Birmingham, AL; grandsons, Christopher
LeCroy and wife Grace, of Colorado, and Adam LeCroy and Sarah McGeough of
Smryna, GA; sister Carolyn McCall and niece Delta McCall, of Carnesville; a number of
nieces and nephews; and sister-in-law, Jean LeCroy Bailey. The family wishes to thank,
Lucinda Stowers, OD Bullard, and the staff of Alexian Village for all their care and
support.

Services will be Friday morning, June 30, 2022, at 11am, at the B D Ginn Memorial
Chapel, with Rev. Bobby Jones and Rev. Tommy Cleveland officiating. Interment will
be in Cross Roads Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Edward Schemel,
Christopher LeCroy, Adam LeCroy, Steven LeCroy, Shannon Payne, and OD Bullard.
Betty is at the Ginn Funeral Home. The family is at the home and will receive friends
from 9am until 11am Friday morning. Flowers are welcome but memorials may be to the
Northeast Georgia Animal Shelter, 870 Bear Creek Road, Lavonia, Georgia 30553.
