Bertie Lou “Betty” McSpadden League

Bertie Lou “Betty” McSpadden League of Toccoa and formerly of Athens passed away peacefully Sunday, May 28, 2023 in Clary Care Center surrounded by her loving family.

Betty was born in Fort Payne, Alabama to the late Francis Warren and Lois Vivian McGee McSpadden and attended college for two years through the University of Alabama. She worked as a lab technician at the University of Georgia for many years and was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Athens. Betty was an avid golfer and bridge player and enjoyed watching college football and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, her husband of 48 years, Lawrence Crayton League, sisters and brothers-in-law, Charlene Ledford (Jimmy), Sue Wilcox (Herman), Ola Robinson (John), and Mary Fairbank (Fred), preceded Betty in death.

She is survived by her daughter, Cindy Poole and her husband, Rick of Toccoa; grandchildren, Michael Poole and his wife, Brittany of Lagrange and Lauren Hogan and her husband, Zac of Mt. Airy; great-grandchildren, Scarlett Poole, Walker Poole, Reagan Hogan and Lucas Hogan; several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 am Saturday, June 3, 2023 in the Chapel of First Baptist Church of Toccoa. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am to 11:00 am Saturday, before the service at the church.

Honorary pallbearers will be Zac Hogan, Brittany Poole, Valeta Dyal, Pat Turner, Sue Batton, Melissa Plaisted, Joyce Lockwood, Vicki Carden, Pat Mills, India Richardson, Jeanne Carithers, and Jayne Snell.

Inurnment will be held privately in Evergreen Memorial Park.
