Bell appointed as Chair of Public Safety and Courts Policy Committee

Stephens County Commissioner Dennis Bell has been appointed to serve as the chair of the Public Safety and Courts Policy Committee for the 2019-2020 policy year through the Association of County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG).

Along with the Public Safety and Courts Policy Committee, Bell will also serve as a member of the ACCG Policy Council.

ACCG President Billy Pittard says that based upon recommendations, his active participation in ACCG, and his demonstrated leadership, Bell is the best fit to fill this leadership role.

Bell tells WNEG News that he has worked with the ACCG since being elected as a county commissioner. He says he looks forward to bringing home more knowledge that can be used to benefit Stephens County.

Bell says he is humbled by this appointment, and he looks forward to working with his committee members.

As Chair, Bell will meet with the ACCG policy staff assigned to the Public Safety and Courts Policy Committee to decide what issues need to be researched and/or assigned to a study committee. He will also be responsible for leading two meetings during the month of August to finalize his committee’s policy recommendations.

Pittard tells WNEG News that Bell will be responsible for presenting his committee’s recommendations to the Policy Council in September.

The work done through the Public Service and Courts Committee, and the six other ACCG Committees, form the foundation of the ACCG’s lobbying efforts that provide Congress and state legislature with information necessary for the development of sound legislation.
