Bel Air drug bust leads to four arrest

The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office recently released a report of four individuals arrested for drug possession at a residence on Bel Air Drive.

On Nov. 9, deputies from the sheriff’s office went to 38 Bel Air Drive in order to serve an arrest warrant on Mickey Richardson.

On arrival deputies met with the homeowner at the front door, who allowed them to enter the residence and begin searching for Richardson, who was located in the back bedroom and arrested.

While searching for Richardson, deputies saw James Wight, who was also at the residence, attempting to flush marijuana down the toilet, he was then detained and the residence was secured in order to obtain a search warrant on the residence for illegal drugs.

While deputies were waiting for the search warrant to be signed, they began to pat down all of the people at the residence for weapons, during the pat down, a marijuana cigarette was located on Kella Simmons.

Deputies also found a plastic bag containing marijuana on Simmons, who had attempted to swallow the bag; however, he began chocking and the deputies came to his aid and performed the Heimlich maneuver.

After a brief struggle deputies were able to retrieve the bag from Simmons’ mouth.

Once deputies received the go-ahead to search the residence and vehicles, methamphetamine and marijuana were located in the residence and two hydrocodone pills were located in Simmons’ vehicle.

Mickey Richardson, 37, of Martin was charged with Felony probation violation, possession of meth and possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, and is currently being held on a $6,000 bond.

Kella Simmons, 25, of Lavonia was charged with possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, possession of a schedule II controlled substance, obstruction against a law enforcement officer and tampering with evidence. Simmons is currently out on bond.

James Wight, 19, of Martin, was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and tampering with evidence, he is currently being held on a $10,000 bond.

Joann Johnson, 42, of Martin was charged with possession of less than an ounce of marijuana. She is currently out on bond.
