UPDATE: According to the Dispatch sheet, the call regarding the incident came in at 9:40 p.m. yesterday, May 2, and the incident occurred on the Hwy. 17 Bypass and Liberty Hill Road, between a black bear and a Toyota Tundra. According to the report, there was minimal damage to the vehicle, and no injuries were reported.

A large black bear was struck by a vehicle earlier today on the Highway 17 Bypass at Hwy. 145, according to Marvin Brown with Brown’s Wrecker Service of Toccoa. Brown was contacted by Stephens County E911 Dispatch to transport the vehicle from the scene of the accident. He said he also processed the necessary Department of Natural Resources paperwork to take the body of the bear to be mounted.

He said the bear weighed approximately 250-300 pounds, and added that the bear did not appear to be very old.

He also said the car sustained damage, but not as much as you would expect after a collision with that large of an animal.
