BBB Reminds Consumers to Research Before They Buy

Black Friday is tomorrow and it is the unofficial start to the holiday shopping season where millions of holiday shoppers jam stores to get those holiday gift deals.

And while this practice still remains, the Better Business Bureau said more shoppers are being more careful and doing some research before buying

In 2017, shoppers spent a record $5 billion on Black Friday, a 17% increase from 2016.

But before you hit the stores, the Better Business Bureau has a few tips to ensure you have a safe and fun shopping eperience.

First, when shopping for gifts, always ask for a gift receipt.

That way, the recipient can return or exchange a gift if it’s not just right.

Second, ask about the store’s return policy and warranty information before purchasing.

Also, be sure to pass along any information about returns, exchanges, repairs, and warranties to the person who will be receiving the item as a gift.

And do your homework.

If you’re making a big purchase, research before you buy. Read product reviews, check BBB.org’s Business Profiles, look at the sales flyers and ads, compare prices, and look for early promotions and “flash sales.”
