The Stephens County Indians varsity baseball team took an 11-1 win over the East Hall Vikings last night in the season home opener at the Reservation, fueled by a powerful fifth inning. Batting around the lineup, the Indians scored six runs on four hits in the 5th, aided by a Viking error. Seven different Indians had RBIs in the contest; Ismael Matias drove in two runs, while Colby Fowler, Caiden Sweat, Tyler Zigan, Noah Holbrooks, Craig Thurmond and Landon Carter each brought in one run.

Findley Ward pitched the first four innings and picked up the win, allowing just five hits and striking out four. Noah Holbrooks finished out the game, striking out four and denying the Vikings even a single hit.

Starter Drew Campbell took the loss for East Hall.

The Indians are now 2-0 on the season, while East Hall drops to 0-2.

The Indians will be on the road at Elbert County this afternoon to play the Elbert County Blue Devils. The game will not be broadcast due to the airing of the Indians basketball team’s consolation game in the Region 8-AAA basketball tournament at the Currahee Arena. Game time for that contest against the Monroe Purple Hurricanes will be 5 p.m., with air time at approximately 4:45 p.m. on WNEG Radio and wnegradio.com
