Baseball: Indians fall to Banks County

The Stephens County Indians baseball team lost to Banks County last night in Homer, 4 to 2.  The Leopards scored 2 runs on 3 hits in the first inning on their way to a 9-hit night.  

Banks County’s Gaven Sears was the winning pitcher, giving up only 3 hits and 1 run to the Indians over 6 innings. 

 Stephens County’s starting pitcher, Hayden Scott, went 5 innings giving up 7 hits and 3 runs.  Indian freshman, Noah Strickland, pitched the 6th inning to finish up the game.  

Stephens County’s only RBI was in the fourth inning when William Roush walked and Nate Ivester drove him in with a double.  Ivester also singled in the 7th inning and later scored on a wild pitch for the Indians only other run.  Ismael (ISH-ma-el) Matias (mah-TAY-us) had a good night at the plate with two singles and a double.   

Stephens County’s record drops to 4 & 5 while Banks County improves to 5 & 1.  Stephens County’s next game, originally scheduled for tonight, has been moved to Thursday as they travel up to Tiger to take on the Rabun County Wildcats.  Game time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m., with airtime on WNEG at 5:20 p.m.
