Banks Crossing Extension Opens to Ease Traffic, Safety Concerns

Banks County officials have opened a new road in the Banks Crossing area that should help patrons of some businesses access U.S. Highway 441 more safely.

On Monday, a dedication was held to open the new Eisenhower Drive to Diana Way extension.

The new road provides motorists an alternate exit from Cracker Barrel and four local hotels.

Banks County Commission Chair Jimmy Hooper told AccessWDUN the road will allow motorists to circle around to the traffic light without having to make a left from those businesses onto 441.

Additionally, a traffic circle at Diana Way will take motorists onto Faulkner Drive between Culver’s and Pritchett Tire, where they can continue straight or turn left or right onto 441.

Hooper said the County had been concerned about safety hazards on 441 in Banks Crossing given the ever-increasing amount of traffic in the area.

He said there are typically wrecks in that stretch of 441 every weekend.

Hooper also pointed to the added undeveloped property on the new extension that he said the County hopes will bring in more hotels, restaurants, and other businesses.

The County used monies from the Georgia Department of Transportation’s Local Maintenance Improvement Grant to fund the project.
