Back to School: Stephens County schools back in session

Summer has officially come to an end for students in Stephens County, as classes are now back in session for grades Kindergarten through 12th.

Stephens County School Superintendent Brian Dorsey welcomes students back and looks forward to another successful school year.

“We’re certainly looking forward to an exciting 2018-2019 school year for our students, for our families and for our community,” Dorsey said. “We have a lot of things in place that I think, are going to enhance the opportunities for our children, as we get them ready to participate in our society and in our workforces. I know our schools have worked very diligently to get ready for them. And as always, at the beginning of each school year, you have those riders getting back on the road for the first time as new high school students and then the extra cars. So, we just ask everyone to use extra caution as you will see students waiting for buses to be picked up and dropped off in the afternoon, and then with just the extra volume of traffic. So, we just wish everyone a safe and prosperous 2018-19 school year.

Dorsey continued by saying there are no system-wide changes that would impact students’ attendance.

“The system has adopted no new policies that would impact students; but, of course, as individual schools with their governance teams I’m sure that they have made small changes in code of conduct, and will be making students and parents aware of those during orientation or upon receiving their handbooks,” Dorsey said. “But no system level policy changes that would be impacting students’ attendance for this next year.”

Classes began this morning in Stephens County.
