April 11 SCHS Sports Update

The Stephens County High School Girls Tennis Team will take on Oconee County for the Region Championship today at 3 p.m. The Lady Indians advanced to the Championship round against the Warriors with a 3-0 rout of Hebron Christian in the Region semi-finals match yesterday. 

The Indians Boys Tennis Team defeated Hart County by a match score of 3-1 in the first round of the Region Tournament, but fell to Hebron Christian 3-0 in the semi-finals match. The Indians will take on Monroe Area today at 1:30 for the third place rank.

The Franklin County Lions broke a 3-3 tie with five runs in the top of the fifth inning to score a 9-3 win over the Stephens County Indians Wednesday night at the Reservation. Both teams scored a run in the first inning; the Lions scored on a sacrifice fly by Cade Gibson. The Indians scored after three straight hits when Konnor Loudermilk knocked in the first run.

The Lions scored two in the third and the Indians answered with two in the fourth inning. Franklin County batted around in the fifth inning, scoring five runs on just one hit.

Sophomore Easton Gailey pitched six strong innings for the Lions, scattering nine hits, walking three and fanning three. Findley Ward stared for the Indidans and went four and a third innings before being relieved by Noah Strickland. Noah Holbrooks finished out the game for Stephens County. The Indians left ten men on base, including stranding three runners in the sixth inning.

The Indians are now 3-10 in Region 8-AAA while Franklin County is 10-3 in the region. The Lions are 21-5 overall while Stephens County’s record is 10-15.

Next up for the Indians is the series-ending double-header in Carnesville Friday at 5 p.m. with airtime on WNEG Radio at 4:45 p.m.
