Altercation on S. Pond St. ends with 1 arrested

According to Toccoa Chief of Police Jimmy Mize, on Saturday, September 1, officers with the Toccoa Police Department responded to a call of possible shots fired with a subject shot in the 300 block area of South Pond Street.

Upon arrival, officers were met by Jeffrey Seay, 51, of Toccoa, who told officers he was there to collect some money and got into an argument with Venson Martin.

Seay was intoxicated and became belligerent with officers, cursing and yelling, and refused to cooperate with the investigation.

Martin refused to speak with officers and would not give any information.

Investigators spoke with several witnesses who heard a loud noise, thought to have been gunshots, and saw Seay fall to the ground in the yard.

Some witnesses told officers they heard the men fussing but didn’t hear any shots fired.

Officers searched the residence and found no weapon.

Seay was arrested for disorderly conduct and had an outstanding probation warrant from Franklin County.

Mize added that no one was hurt in the altercation.

The case is still under investigation.
