All students at SCHS will get free lunch, breakfast until December 31, 2020

Stephens County School System’s Nutrition Director Kim Caudell has announced that Stephens County High School has started serving free breakfast and lunch to all students.

She says the United States Department of Agriculture has provided emergency funding for schools to provide free breakfast and lunch until December 31, 2020, or until the emergency funds are depleted.

Caudell explains that this will allow the school nutrition program to serve nutritious meals to all students, at no cost to families.

Stephens County High School students who purchased meals during September 1 through the 9th will be issued a credit on their meal accounts.

Caudell says regular meal prices at Stephens County High School will resume in January 2021; however, families are encouraged to complete an application for free and reduced meals prior to the regular meal prices returning.

She says lunch price for high school students is $2.20 and breakfast is $1.25; whereas, reduced price lunches are $0.40 and breakfast is $0.30.

All other schools in Stephens County participate in the Community Eligibility Provision and already receive breakfast and lunch at no charge.

Caudell adds that the nutrition department understands that these are trying times for everyone and hope that this will relieve some of the financial hardship that the community is experiencing.
