Aldi’s Discount Grocery Chain Mum on Expansion Plans

German discount grocery chain Aldi’s is not saying whether they are looking at property in Toccoa for a new store.

Recent talk around the County has been that Aldi’s was planning to put in a store in the old Bi-Lo location on Big A Road.

WNEG News spoke to City and County officials recently as well as with Chamber and Econonic Development officials who all said they have not heard from the grocery chain about any such plans in Toccoa.

In a statement to WNEG News Tuesday, Aldi’s Executive Vice-president for their Jefferson Division Shaun O’Keefe said, “At this time, it is still too early to confirm any other details of the stores you are inquiring about. We will be sure to be in touch as soon as information becomes available.”

Last week O’Keefe confirmed to the Northeast Georgia newspaper that they are looking at plans to locate a store in Cornelia.

Aldi officials say they are in the early stages of working with local county and city officials as well as with officials with the Habersham Partnership for Growth/Economic Developer.

A location for the new Aldi’s has not been announced.

Currently, shoppers in Toccoa-Stephens County, as well as in Franklin and Hart counties must travel to Seneca or Anderson, SC to shop at an Aldi’s.
