Advance voting ends with huge turnout

Early voting in Stephens County ended on Friday.

The number of ballots cast during the early voting period was record breaking.

That’s according to Stephens County Registrar Bill Cochran.

He says a total of 6,157 registered voters came out and participated in advance voting.

Cochran adds that he anticipates the turnout to be slightly lower on election day.

“Historically, 60 percent of voters come out during early voting and the other 40 percent on Election Day. So if you do the math then 4,000 or 5,000 should vote on election day. So in total it should be around 10,000 or 11,000 voters total.

Residents of Stephens County will cast ballots at the Stephens County Senior Center located on Rose Lane in Toccoa, tomorrow from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.

Additionally, voters who still have mail-in, paper absentee ballots must return them to the Stephens County Registrar’s Office by 7 p.m. tomorrow.

The Registrar’s Office is located inside the Stephens County Government Annex Building on Tugalo Street.

Anyone with questions on voting should contact the Stephens County Registrar’s Office at 706-886-8954 or go online to the Georgia Secretary of State’s Office website at www.sos.ga.gov.
