Accident on GA 17 and 145 Leaves Two Injured

An accident Tuesday leaves two injured.

According to the Toccoa Post of the Georgia State Patrol, a 2017 Jeep Cherokee driven by Joseph Walter Whitlock, 71 of Carnesville, was traveling north on GA 17 in the left turn lane.

The Jeep turned left and failed to yield in front of a 2005 Toyota Camry traveling southbound. The front of the Camry struck the right side of the Jeep in the right southbound lane of GA 17 at the intersection with GA 145.

After impact, the Jeep rotated and came to a final rest in the right southbound lane while the Camry came to final rest in the intersection of GA 17 and GA 145 in the southbound lane.

Whitlock was not injured but the passenger of Whitlock’s vehicle, Peggy Milford Whitlock, 71 of Carnesville and the driver of the Camry, identified as Michael Charles Leonard, 62 of Greenville, South Carolina were both taken by ambulance to Stephens County Hospital, both with non-incapacitating injuries.

Whitlock was charged with Failure to Yield While Turning Left.
