Accident knocks out power to traffic signal on GA-17

An accident that occurred Tuesday morning in Toccoa ended with one vehicle coming to an uncontrolled rest down an embankment off Ga-17.

According to Toccoa Police Chief Jimmy Mize the accident happened at 8:38 a.m. when a 2002 Dodge Ram pickup truck, driven by Andrea Alonzo Feater, 44, of Eastanollee failed to yield to the right-of-way of a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Charles Terry Kelley, 70, of Toccoa, while attempting to turn onto GA-17 Bypass.

When Kelley’s vehicle was struck, his vehicle was knocked across the intersection, hitting a Georgia Department of Transportation traffic signal box, and then came to an uncontrolled rest after rolling down an embankment and overturning.

Following the accident, a traffic signal was without power for several hours.

According to the report released by the Toccoa Police Department, the vehicle Kelley was driving was also pulling a trailer that contained two Patriot Zero-turn mowers.

The trailer ended up detaching from the Silverado as it overturned.

Both Feater and Kelley escaped the accident without injury.

No citations were issued.
