AAA Predicting Record Travel Over July 4 Holiday

Triple-A predicts more Americans will travel for this Independence Day than ever before.

Nearly 49 million eople are making plans to honor the red, white and blue with an Independence Day getaway.

“As Independence Day approaches, more Americans are planning to travel, seeking memorable experiences and adventures, said Montrae Waiters, spokeswoman, AAA- The Auto Club Group. “This holiday builds on the strong travel demand seen for Memorial Day, and with schools now out of session across the country, families coast to coast are eager to travel.”

Overall travel volume for the holiday is expected to rise 4.1% over last year, with an additional 1.9 million people planning road trips and other vacations to celebrate America’s birthday.

In Georgia, Triple-A expects over 1.4 million people to travel either by car, plane, train, or bus.

Triple-A says with gas prices lower this year, more than 1.2 million Georgians will travel by car – a 5-percent increase over last year.  However, the bad news is, because of that you can expect more congestion on the roads.

Triple-A predicts drivers will experience the greatest amount of congestion on Wednesday, July 3 as commuters mix with holiday travelers.

In major metros areas, such as Atlanta and Greenville, drivers could face delays as much as four times a normal commute.

Several major U.S. metros – including Atlanta – expect to experience double the travel times compared to a normal trip.
