Today a thousand BRAG Cyclists are expected to Roll Into Toccoa

It was recently announced that 1-thousand cyclists are biking across Georgia this week and they’re headed to Toccoa.

They’re part of the annual Bicycle Ride Across Georgia or BRAG.

The Bicycle Ride Across Georgia (BRAG) is a not-for-profit dedicated to providing affordable, quality bicycle tours in and across the state of Georgia.

Now in its 39th year, BRAG is the second oldest across-state bicycle tour in the world and attracts riders from all across the U.S.

Along the routes, Georgia residents open up their towns and communities to participants, making for a truly memorable experience.

Today, Toccoa will be one of those communities hosting the cyclists on one of their final stops, according to Main Street Event Coordinator Sharon Crosby.

“They started in Rome on Monday, and they’re coming across the state and we are their last full day on the road,” Crosby said. “And after us will be Hartwell. So, that’s when the race will finish.”

Crosby said this is the second time BRAG cyclists have made a stop in Toccoa, and she said Main Street in conjuction with the Toccoa-Stephens County Chamber have a number of activities arranged for the visitors.

Cyclists will have the opportunity to camp out at Boyd Field or stay in one of Toccoa’s local hotels.

According to Chamber President Julie Paysen all local hotels have been completely booked.

Crosby added that tonight there will be several activities in place for the community and visitors to enjoy.

“So the Chamber is providing shuttle buses for them to take them to Toccoa Falls, Traveler’s Rest, and other points of interest in the County. We’re hoping they will also walk downtown since they’re only going to be two blocks away. Friday night we will have a concert with the Shoal Creek Band. So, it should be a lot of fun. We’re looking forward to it,” she said.

BRAG rides support a number of charitable causes as well as the BRAG Dream Team.
