Toccoa-Stephens County Boys & Girls Club Still Operating

In a release issued to WNEG News by the Boys and Girls Club of Toccoa-Stephens County Board of Directors, they countered community concerns regarding their continued operation, saying that the Boys and Girls Club of Toccoa-Stephens County is open and operating.

Stating, “We are still serving the youth of our community and expect to continue in this effort,” the release clarified that, for the last two and one-half years, the local club has been managed by Boys and Girls Clubs of Lanier out of Gainesville, Georgia. This management arrangement is coming to an end on May 24. At that time, the Toccoa-Stephens County Board of Directors and the local club will assume full responsibility for the operation of the local club.

The press release explained that, as part of the management transitioning back to local control, the board is evaluating whether to operate a summer camp.

According to the release, the board feels that providing a safe and positive place for area youth during the summer is very important and they are working very hard to make this a reality, stating, “With the community’s help and support, we can make this happen. We will update the community as to our progress in this regard. We are also planning for our after school program which begins its new year during the 2024-2025 school year.”

The board expressed appreciation for the community and its continued support of the club and stated that they look forward to working with community members in the very near future.
