Stephens County Sheriff announces changes to visitation at Stephens County Jail

Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley announced Friday that effective immediately the Stephens County Jail has implemented changes to visitation out of caution for the possible outbreak of COVID-19.

Shirley says visitors who enter the jail and show signs of “sickness” will be turned away—those symptoms include cough, difficulty breathing, shortness of breath, confusion, bluish lips, and or fever.

Visitors will be allowed to enter with their own personal bottles of hand sanitizer or disinfectant wipes.

Visitors will be allowed, if they wish, to bring their own PPE facemask into visitation, as long as the individual is identified to the jail intake officer.

Shirley says before each round of visitation a jail employee will spray or wipe each visitor phone with the appropriate disinfectant and cleaning wipes.

He adds that these precautions will continue for an initial period of two weeks; however, these restrictions can be extended at any time by order of the Sheriff.
