5 counties added for Mass COVID-19 Vaccination sites

More counties have been added to the state’s new mass COVID-19 vaccination sites.

Five new counties were added in Chatham, Ware, Washington, Bartow, and Muscogee counties.

Those sites will open on March 17.

With the addition of these sites, the state’s mass vaccination program will have the capacity to administer 45,000 doses weekly between nine sites throughout the state.

Over the last 28 days, Georgia has administered 1.1 million COVID-19 vaccine doses.

Total doses administered in Georgia stand at 2.1 million.

The state has administered 76% of vaccines shipped by the federal government, not including the federal partnership with providers like CVS and Walgreens.

As of Wednesday, 860,000 Georgians over the age of 65 have received their first dose.

Nearly 60% of Georgia’s elderly population have received at least one vaccine dose, which is higher than the national average of 49%.
