Robin Simmons is named the Stephens County Hospital Nurse Hero for 2018

Stephens County Hospital has named their Nurse Hero for 2018.

Nurse Robin Simmons was named this year’s Nurse Hero at a special breakfast meeting Tuesday morning.

Faye Taylor is the Vice-president of Nursing for Stephens County Hospital.

Before announcing the award winner, Taylor outlined some of the comments about Simmons from those who nominated her.

“Let me read a few comments submitted about the person who is the winner,” Taylor began. “’She’s always smiling. Has a great attitude. Always willing to help others. A great team player. She goes wherever she’s needed and she does it always with a smile. So professional and her patients and families love her.’”

Simmons, who has been in nursing for the past eight years works in ICU at Stephens County Hospital.

She tells WNEG News her award was unexpected, but she was excited to have received it.

Simmons says her philosophy of nursing is to care for her patients the way she would want to be cared for.

“I take care of my patients. I want to always want to make sure that they are treated like I would like to be treated or my family members would be treated. I do think it’s important to go in with a smile and let them know that I want to help them and it’s not just a job to me. I care about well they’re taken care of,” she said.

In all, seven nurses from different departments at Stephens County Hospital were nominated for the Nurse Hero award.

The other nominees included Kay Cox, Debbie Knickerbacher, Jessica Sharrett, Theresa Smith, Maryanne Thomas, and Tiffany Wilkinson.

They each received a specially engraved award mug noting their nominations.

For the past 25 years, the hospital administration, doctors and nurses nominate their pick for the nurse who demonstrates proficiency in key areas.

A special committee then selects the winner.
