4 arrested during traffic checkpoints in Toccoa

Officers, with the Toccoa Police Department, recently held two traffic checks.

At one of the two traffic checkpoints, officers uncovered a quantity of methamphetamine.

According to Toccoa Police Chief Jimmy Mize, on July 6, while checking traffic on Falls Road, officers made a traffic stop for speeding.

The driver of the vehicle, Anna Galaway, 31, of South Carolina was issued a warning for her speed and released on the scene.

However, it was determined that the passenger of the vehicle, identified as Jeremy Phillips, 34, of Toccoa, had outstanding warrants out of Gilmer County.

Officers quickly discovered Phillips was hiding methamphetamine in his ball cap.

Phillips was arrested and transported to the Stephens County Jail where he was charged with possession of meth and an outstanding warrant from Gilmer County.

On the same day, at the second check point, located at the intersection of Tugalo St. and Boulevard, officers were able to recover more methamphetamine.

As officers checked a 1999 Honda Civic that came through the checkpoint they made contact with the driver, identified as Demetrius Glenn, 36, of Toccoa, who was found to be under the influence of drugs.

Inside the vehicle were two passengers, Bridgett Webb, 21, of Toccoa, and Darren Hunter, 54, of West Union, South Carolina.

Officers asked all three to step away from the vehicle so the K-9 Unit could check the vehicle.

K-9 Warlock alerted to the vehicle, leading officers to uncover two packages of methamphetamine.

Bridgett Webb, 21, of Toccoa, was charged with possession of methamphetamine and an outstanding probation warrant.

Darren Hunter, 54, of West Union, South Carolina, was charged with possession of methamphetamine.
