Coroner gets new vehicle

During last week’s County Commission meeting, the commissioners approved the purchase of a new vehicle for County Coroner Chris Stephens.

Earlier in Oct. County Clerk Beth Rider sent out eight requests for bids for a new county vehicle.

The county received two bids, the first from Mike Jones Ford in Eastanollee, the other bid came from Jacky Jones, in Cleveland.

The County had budgeted $25,000 for a new vehicle; however, both bids exceeded the budgeted about.

Stephens explained to the commission that the vehicle from Jacky Jones would not need any additional modifications for the county’s use.

The commission agreed that the truck from Jack Jones, which is already outfitted for the County’s needs, would be the best choice.

Commissioner Dean Scarborough explained that for the price and installed equipment the vehicle could not be passed up.

The motion was made by Commissioner Dennis Bell and seconded by Scarborough.

It passed unanimously.

The vehicle was purchased for $34,900.
