August Brings Jobs Record

Some good economic news for the State of Georgia.

State Labor Commissioner Mark Butler announced this week that Georgia has set a record in August for total jobs, surpassing 4.5 million for the first time.

Butler said other key indicators like new unemployment claims, increasing workforce and the total number of employed residents showed Georgia’s economy continues to be strong.

Additionally, over the past year, unemployment claims were down by 12.6 percent, from this time in August 2016.

From July to August of this year, Georgia gained 19,800 jobs.

That’s a 0.4 percent increase, which increased the total number of jobs to just over 4.5 million.

That means the state is outpacing the national job growth rate of 1.4 percent.

Butler says Georgia continues provide an attractive economic environment and incentives for companies looking to move here.

Butler encourages job seekers to access the Department of Labor’s Employ Georgia online job listing service at employgeorgia.com.

In August, Employ Georgia listed 70,306 new job postings statewide.
