3 Stolen bikes recovered, 4 juveniles charged

The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office along with Officers with the Toccoa Police Department recently responded to a call on Doyle Street regarding some juveniles reportedly riding a stolen bike.

Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley told WNEG News that his deputies were able to determine that one of the four juveniles were riding one of three bikes reported stolen from a burglary that happened on Pond Street, Sunday morning.

Shirley said that juvenile riding the stolen bike would not give a straight answer on where the bike came from.

Deputies knew where one of the four juveniles lived and went to the residence to speak with the juvenile’s parents and to look for the other stolen bikes; there, the deputy uncovered another one of the stolen bikes in the front yard of the residence.

Shirley continued to say that his deputies then interviewed the juvenile that lived at the residence where the second bike was found.

The juvenile admitted to stealing the bikes along with two of the other juveniles; the juvenile also told deputies that the third stolen bike was located at the Java Station on Big A Road where they had left it.

Deputies were able to recover the third bike at the Java Station.

The juvenile that was riding the stolen bike, who was not linked to the burglary by statements from the other juveniles, was charged with theft by receiving stolen property and released to their parents.

The other three juveniles were charged with burglary and taken to the Gainesville Regional Youth Detention Center.

All of the stolen bikes were returned to the victim.
